Diversity and isolated populations in bulltrout
Working with Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, we are seeking to understand the genetics of life history variation and inbreeding in isolated populations of bulltrout, a threatened species. Like other related fish species, bulltrout show extraordinary diversity among resident and migratory forms, and they also persist in tiny, isolated mountain lake populations; this variation may be critical to their ability to adapt to environmental change. We are working to develop genetic tools for managers to identify these variations and to understand the processes shaping genetic diversity in the species.
